IHOL is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation formed by the churches and synagogues of Longmeadow to promote elderly affordable housing.
In 1980, with the help of a HUD 202/Section 8 Loan, Emerson Manor was built. It contained 60 one-bedroom apartments of which 4 were handicapped accessible, and 8 two-bedrooms of which one was handicapped accessible. These units were open to all aged 62 and over, and who could meet the income guidelines.

The 5 buildings, 4 residential, and 1 community building, containing the management office, Resident Service Coordinator office, exercise room, community kitchen, library, greenhouse, and patio were all designed for the benefit of the residents.
In 2007, IHOL paid off its existing loan and refinanced to upgrade the infrastructure and to add 10 two-bedroom, two-bath units of which 2 were handicapped accessible. The spacious apartments include fire sprinklers, wall-to-wall carpeting or luxury vinyl plank and tile flooring, spacious closets, a pantry, a balcony or patio and kitchens equipped with stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal and exhaust fan. The affordable rent includes all utilities except for phone, cable, and air conditioning. These 1,155 square foot two bedroom, two-bath apartments offer several different floor plans.
In 2010 IHOL built its Phase II on an adjacent parcel of land consisting of 21- one bedroom apartments of which 2 are handicapped accessible. Phase II also includes a self-contained laundromat, all purpose room, maintenance facility, a commercial kitchen, and large adjacent patio. The spacious one-bedroom apartments offer 3 floor plans, kitchens include stove, refrigerator, garbage disposal, exhaust fans, fire sprinklers, wall-to-wall carpeting or luxury vinyl plank and tile, spacious closets, a pantry, and a porch or patio.
